2009 has a been a year of change, revisiting and revelation. Highlights for me included releasing my first EVER game as a proffessional Game Developer. The title & genre of which I'm not saying as it embarassing and not a type of game I really want to be associated with or ever find myself playing. But, hey, we go where the work is and it's a mass market industry now.
Suffice to say the company went it's seperate ways shortly afterwards, thank you global recession and pansy arsed publishers who are afraid to take a gamble, honestly, when you've got more money than God you can afford to take a risk with a low budget game.
So, my CV had three dead projects and one released/published title (if you'd even call it a game) by the middle of 2009.
During this time I was working on Shadow Agent, a flash game. Not all that interesting but consider myself and my friend Mark started this concept waaay back in 1999 it's taken a good 10 years to actually get to where it is. Not that I've been working on it solidly for the past decade. What with College and University and all the inbetween projects such as Midnight Eye and Twin Echoes which helped mould the foundations as they are all based in the same "universe".
Along side various other projects such as Ultima FFXI which helped develop the nessecary skills to actually make it, which were not taught at Uni, but entirely self taught.
With all this going on, I landed a new job as a Visual Effect Artist (yay I like making explosions!) and was introduced to the world of Autodesk Maya. Alittle different from being a Designer, more hands on, bigger paycheck and much more creative. I hate scripting anyway.
Which is where I'm at now, working on multiple projects. Aren't NDAs great, that's all I'm allowed to say.
So, onwards to 2010. Shadow Agent the flash game, has a new direction, new enthusiasm for it. It's going to be bigger and better. Not some measly 5 minute flash game on newgrounds, but a BIG game worth playing, complete with a dedicated website and stuff.
That's if I can find an hour or so when I'm not playing Modern Warfare 2...
